...the story so far...

In 1980 ...(and the) native hipsters
released "there goes concorde again" as a 7inch 33rpm EP.

A real bedroom recording; recorded in a living room.
500 copies were printed up, the labels rubber stamped by hand.

The covers were unused billboard posters, cut to size by hand. Eventually we sold 5,000 copies and our poor little rubber stamp lay exhausted and panting in the corner.

21 Years later Rough Trade include the Concorde song on their '25 Years of Rough Trade' CD, released in March 2001.

We decide to follow this up with a retrospective ...native hipster CD.
Drawing from a large library of tapes recorded over the last 20 years,
I have put this CD together. Hope you like it.
We think its great, ..... but then we would.

there goes Concorde again... a collection of stuff (music / noises / words). recorded with various people, at various times between 1979 - 2001 in various locations, on various machines. reassembled, arranged and re- mixed digitally by william wilding. (march - aug 01). all vocals;- nanette greenblatt. most backing vocals;- william. all words wilding and greenblatt apart from mr magic chorus (clem curtis). arrangements by william, but with the following important exceptions...

mr magic - with clem curtis and the foundations plus liduina van der sman on sax. original foundations song recorded somewhere in brixton, late 1960's.

baboon climbs the mountain - wilding on the casio organ. the baboon has escaped. email us with any news.

which way? - with sebastian vittorini (all music). pasted about by william. Please note that on the cd cover sebastians name is spelt wrong. -seb also performs as 'The Bastard Son of Tommy Cooper'.

the story of two twins - with david cunningham (marimba/vibes), sebastian vittorini (on the roof of the bus noises) and other noisy stuff with rex-a-matic.

go on if you're a goon - mashed up guitars and bells - william.

she's not a gentleman - wilding on guitars. some words spike milligan.

poor prince* - olive crossley on organ and tom fawcett on trombone. a cautionary tale about owning an alsation.

tropical fish in the sink - recorded on 8 track tape in 1981 and left in a draw. transferred last week (7/8/01) by andy diagram, and included after an extensive refit at the roger dunn ship yard.

stuck* - noises and guitar - wilding. snickety snicks - sebastian vittorini.

freedom - with mick reddish in the rex-o-matic kitchen plus sebastian vittorini on guitars.

tenderly hurt me* - mick lochran on guitar. originally released in 1983 as a 12" EP with other tracks marked * . one other track 'hang ten' is not included. Also not included on this cd are... the b side to concorde, 'I wanna be around paul', sung by tom fawcett ...and loads of other stuff.

muscle power - from the same drawer as 'tropical fish in the sink'(see above). and 'she's not a gentleman' (see above).

soap opera - with roger dunn and his midi wonderland. 'what you want is benny hill, what you get's untreated swill, a bitter pearl to cast before the swine'.

ten small men with buckets with 'the gits' - steve frost on guitar, steve bowditch on bass/vocal and alan marriott on drums. extra guitar- some mark/glen.

middle of the road rage with wandsworth council highways department. harmonicas - william. recorded on battersea rise. by dangling a mic from the very window that blatt watched concorde out of...

there goes concorde again - with the original '...and the native hipsters' line up. blatt's vocals ...with robert cubitt (guitars, wind, production/arrangement), tom fawcett (wasp synth, guitar), william wilding (banana finger bass /vocals).

punk kissing - sebastian vittorini - guitar, chris cornetto - cornet, david cunningham - everything else. some words by heinrich boll.

larry's coming back - toy organ - simon davidson, all guitars - lester square. a remix of the 1983 single.
